A VINTAGE GARDEN PARTY

Last weekend I had a garden party for my vintage enthusiastic friends. I always wanted to throw a summer garden party & mix it with a vintage event. It all started a day before the party, with collecting flowers for a summer decoration, I arranged dill & wild flowers from a field nearby. My car was full of flowers and bugs, but it was worth it! The garden was filled with such a nice smell coming from all the flowers & the dill! My friends and I had a great time, I had a chance to see everyone before my long summer vacation. Next to my vintage treasures I had a chance to display my illustrations, that I had blown up to decorate some of my vintage purses. What do you think of such a way of displaying bags? For everyone, who missed the event, there is going to be another one! I hope, real soon!

PALAIS XIII

Ladies and Gents,
may I introduce: the most beautiful shop on earth! When I grow up, I want to live in the PALAIS XIII! Ok, actually, I want to be Dietlind Wolf AND live in Palais XIII when I grow up!
Before I tell you about the shop, I need to tell you, how I found it first.
I have been a HUGE fan of Dietlind Wolf for years and haven’t missed a post. Many of you may know her for her amazing prop styling… But being the creative artist, that she is, she also makes beautiful ceramics & amazing jewelry! I got so inspired, she even got me to producing my own jewelry. I know, this isn’t everybody’s favorite – but I love bugs. I brought some antique forms from Paris & have been experimenting with jewelry making à la Dietlind. So here goes my first little bug:

Well, I love my little bug, but it is still not as fragile as Dietlind’s. My cravings for her black ceramic pendants didn’t disappear, so I wanted to have a black little bug by Dietlind. I did my research & found a link on her site, referring to Palais XIII. Tadaa, so here we go.
3 weeks ago I was in Hamburg , visiting my best friend, & could finally pay a visit to Palais XIII! The shop owner & I had such a nice conversation after I told her, how I found their store. Palais XIII is run by two designers and I am heartbroken, that I didn’t ask for the name of the lady I was talking to { so let me know who you are – if you are reading this }. It was a really nice talk, where we went on chatting about wire sculptures, how it is being a shop owner & offering customers unique products… They have a beautifully chosen collection of art, ceramics, wallpaper, furniture… It’s too much to pick from, so you have to go & see for yourself! Before I show you some of the images, you have to promise me: visit Palais XIII the next time you are in Hamburg, OK? Promise?

OPTIONS! AMSTERDAM!

Options! Amsterdam via Passion and Obsession blog
A week and a half ago I went to Amsterdam & have already told you about some of the vintage stores & flea markets I love to go. Now its time to show you a very special store, that I love to visit, every time I go to Amsterdam! I can’t remember when I discovered this beautiful shop, but I already promised to write more about it. At the end of this tour I will show you, what I brought home from Options!
Options! offers accommodations at their Hotel The Exchange & also has a nice cafe right next to the Department store. The store Options! is just a walk down the street from the main station & it is close to many famous attractions of Amsterdam like The Sex Museum and the Red Light District. The spot, where you can go on a guided boat tour is right across the street & it is also not far away from Chinatown.
Once in the store, you can choose from designer furniture, stationary, jewelry, clothes and ceramics… Being a huge fan of all kinds of bugs, I thought these bug towels were very funny!

The last time I’ve been to Options! I fell in love with this little turquoise table & now wanted to take a closer look at it. This time there were much more tables on display, in all sizes & colors. Well, can you decide what your favorite color is? I can’t choose between yellow & turquoise…

Next to the amazing tables, I was impressed by the beautifully chosen decoration at the counter. The nice lady behind it told me, that these threads are not for sale, they are just the rests of the garn, they used for the mattresses at the cafe next door. Isn’t this just the cutest idea? I fell in love with the copper garn & the lady was nice enough to cut off a tiny little bit of it: now it matches my black letters I got there. Here you can see, how the mattresses look – I think they are gorgeous! Also, the sitting area had the largest tulips I have seen in my life! Again, isn’t this pretty? Here you can get an idea how beautiful the cafe was…

Of course I brought some souvenirs back home: I love to wear necklaces, I got myself a cow & a lion… To me this lion symbolizes strength & the cow is a perfect present from Holland, as you seem to see cows all over the place when you go to Amsterdam… They are so easy to wear – as they are light as a feather – the perfect summer accessory! The same applies to black initial letters. Love! Love! Love! those & I get a lot of positive response. Neon has been all over the place for years now, still, I couldn’t help but falling in love with this business card holder!

MAKING OF: DIY PHOTO BACKGROUND

I LAUNCHED MY ONLINE SHOP STILZITAT IN 2011. THERE IS NOT ENOUGH NATURAL LIGHT IN MY STUDIO, SO I WORKED WITH ARTIFICIAL LIGHTS FROM THE BEGINNING. TO GET A HOMOGENEOUS LOOK FOR MY ONLINE STORE, I STARTED PLACING MY PRODUCTS IN FRONT OF A BLACK BACKGROUND. MY KNOWLEDGE OF PHOTOGRAPHY WAS LIMITED & I JUST DIDN’T KNOW BETTER. NOW IT’S 2013 & I’VE LEARNED A LOT MORE ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY {ESPECIALLY ABOUT MANUAL WHITE BALANCE}. I DIDN’T CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT THE DARK BACKGROUND UNTIL I READ THIS MAYA ANGELOU QUOTE: ‘WHEN YOU KNOW BETTER YOU DO BETTER’ SHE WAS RIGHT! – I THOUGHT! I ALWAYS WANTED TO HAVE A BRIGHT & CLEAR LOOK FOR MY STORE. SO IT TOOK ME ABOUT 3 TO 4 WEEKS TO CHANGE THE BLACK BACKGROUND INTO A WHITE ONE. BUT STILL, I WASN’T SATISFIED! WHITE PRODUCTS IN FRONT OF A WHITE BACKGROUND? REALLY? FAIL! SO I WENT ON EXPERIMENTING & HAVE FINALLY FOUND SOMETHING I LIKE A LOT: A BRIGHT, EXPRESSIVE WATERCOLOR LOOK FOR MY BACKGROUNDS! IT LOOKS ELEGANT & SOPHISTICATED, NOT TOO GIRLY & CORNY AT ALL! IT MAY LOOK LIKE IT IS WATERCOLOR, BUT I’VE CHEATED. I USED ACRYLICS WITH LOOOOTS OF WATER TO GET THIS EFFECT… SOOO, HOW DO YOU LIKE IT? THIS HERE SHOWS YOU HOW IT ALL WENT DOWN:

EVERY TIME I GO TO AMSTERDAM, I PAY A VISIT TO OPTIONS! IT IS VERY CENTRAL & A MUST SEE! THE LAST TIME I GOT SOME LETTERS WITH MY INITIALS, BUT A BIGGER OBJECT CAUGHT MY ATTENTION. IT WAS A WOODEN TABLE, COVERED WITH A THICK BLUE LUCENT ENAMEL-LIKE LAYER. THE NATURAL WOOD & THE SPILLED PLASTIC, THE ARTIFICIAL BLUE ICING LOOKED SO PERFECT TOGETHER, THAT I HAVEN’T FORGOTTEN ABOUT THIS TABLE…
I NEED TO VISIT REAL SOON & MAKE NEW PICTURES BECAUSE THE PICTURES SHOWN ON THE PAGE DON’T DO ANY JUSTICE.
